Day 1 - SF to Cow Palace (82 miles)

Hello!

The PG&E Power Pedalers have arrived safe and sound in Santa Cruz.  Thank you to all our donors!!!! The event raised a record breaking $16+ Million this year!

Today's route was 82 miles of fog, artichoke fields, dramatic coastal views and a few hearty hills to climb!

Here are some photos from the day:
We started with Opening Ceremonies at Cow Palace with 2400 riders and 600 Roadie volunteers.

And quickly met lines for food, lines for water, lines for porta-potties... a good way to make new friends!

Teamwork!  Joel's first flat, Chris assisting.

Later, traded my bike in at Rest Stop 2 for a faster mode of transportation.
Nic and Dave (Team Dad and traffic safety at the Lunch Stop)!

Riders and Jan, Team Mom and PJ Party Lunch Roadie.

Chris' new talent

Nic, and his selfie with the Lighthouse.

Made it to camp for...(like I said)... lines for showers, lines for sports med, lines for coffee....

Good night!  -_-

Tri Valley ALC training ride

Mariana unclipping for a rest after the first climb.
Mariana Sierra, our newest PG&E team member, had her first weekend of official AIDS/LifeCycle training rides. She rode Saturday for over 30 miles and then joined the Tri-Valley riders Sunday.  We rode through the Livermore Valley for 50 miles and had beautiful weather and interesting country art & lots of pasture animals, even some unusual ones.

Team training ride, Livermore Valley

Jim, Dave, Jan, David H, Theresa, Lori, Nicolas, Joel
Authentic Covered Wagon (uncovered)
Our first team training ride for 2015.  Most of our  Bay Area members were able to ride together for almost 60 miles, in beautiful spring weather.  We rode through the Livermore Valley in a big loop that took us through a little bit of vineyards, but mostly pasture lands.  Training is just part of the ride.  The harder part is the fundraising.  Please consider donating to help us fight HIV/AIDS.

Rick couldn't join us, since he's in Fresno, but he was out training yesterday too.

Annual Expo for AIDS/LifeCycle

PG&E Power Pedalers, Mariana, Jan, Neil, Emilia, Carol

Each year AIDS/LifeCycle holds a large event (think 1000 people including 150 volunteers), to help acclimate Cyclists & Roadies to ALC & the one week event they will participate in the first week of June.  There are booths, bike raffles, free clothing, information on camping, training rides, fundraising clinics, changing a flat tire, everything a newbie might need to know.  Five PG&E team members jumped in together for a photo.  Mariana and Neil are new cyclists, Carol is a new Roadie.  Jan & Emilia are returnees.
